Affiliation: Institute of Experimental and Applied Physics, Czech Technical University in Prague, Czech Republic Abstract: The high performance semiconductor pixel detector Timepix enables measuring the radiation dose and visualizes the trajectory of single particles with high sensitivity and high spatial resolution. The composition and spectral characteristic of mixed radiation fields can be determined according particle type in wide range of radiation flux. Five Timepix detectors integrated into miniaturized modules for online personnel dosimetry have been deployed by NASA onboard the International Space Station ISS since October 2012. Independently, the detector as instrument payload has been launched in open space onboard the Proba-V satellite of the European Space Agency ESA flying in orbit since May 2013. The response of the devices together with correlated Earth orbit coordinates and time distributions of radiation dose and particle fluxes around the Earth orbit will be presented. As technology demonstrators the instruments deployed have proven successful and potential application paving the way for large scale platform device implementation.Research carried out in frame of the Medipix Collaboration |
